Frederick II The Unbeliever Frederick II was Holy Roman Emperor during the thirteenth century. Mendicant friers whose master was the Pope
preached against the Emperor throughout Italy, spreading malicious
propaganda against this unbeliever, this 'antichrist', it was whispered.
Frederick once remarked that that the three great impostors were
Moses, Christ, and Mohammed. This story was repeated across the Mediterranean,
from Bagdad in Iraq to Toledo in Spain. Many devout Christians were upset
with Emperor Frederick because Christians, Jews and Islamic people were all employed by his court and allowed to live in the same areas without
conflict.
