Wherever there were witches, there were whispers
- rumors and suspicions of death spells in many forms.
A farmer whose cow was going dry, for instance, was
advised to look for signs of theft of the milk by
use an evil spell. On such sign was a milk-splattered
ax handle, for witches were known to charm cows' milk
into axes, sparing themselves the necessity of
approaching the cows.
