Sept 1965   The founder of the Hare Krishna movement is A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, an Indian who brings the original Krishna message to the United States.

Jul 26 1969 Beatle George plugs the Hare Krishna movement's Rathayatra Festival in a series of radio appearances

Aug 28 1969   George attends Apple's press release of the Radha Krishna Temple's single ‘Hare Krishna Mantra' at a country house in Sydenham, London.

Sep 14 1969 George, John and Yoko meet with A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada at Tittenhurst Park. A transcript of this conversation is included in the book ‘Lennon '69: Search for Liberation' and in our Skeptic section, "The Skeptic John Lennon"

Mar 31 1970 George writes up and signs the official Apple press release for the Radha Krishna Temple.

Dec 26 1970 ‘My Sweet Lord' hits # 1 in the US and stays there for 4 weeks.

Feb 10 1975 Bright Tunes Music Corp. brings a copyright infringement action against George, claiming that he plagiarized the 1963 song ‘He's So Fine' whose copyright is owned by Bright Tunes.

Dec 26 1975   George appears in a pre-recorded segment on British TV show, ‘Rutland Weekend Television Christmas Show.' He sang ‘The Pirate Song,' co-written with his friend, Monty Python's Eric Idle, which satirizes George's ‘My Sweet Lord' lawsuit.

Sep 7 1976   George is found guilty of "subconscious plagiarism" in his song, ‘My Sweet Lord.' (see Feb 10 1975, Feb 26 1981) Damages have yet to be assessed.

Nov 14 1977 His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, founder of ISKCON and perhaps George's most influential spiritual mentor, dies.

Sep 4 1982 George is interviewed by Mukunda Goswami. George discusses his spiritual practices and beliefs, and how they are reflected in his music. The entire interview is transcribed in ISKCON's book ‘Chant And Be Happy.'

Apr 6 1992 George performs at the Royal Albert Hall to support the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Natural Law Party. Ringo and Dhani join in for ‘Roll Over Beethoven.' The NLP is a political party; the Maharishi himself has run for office.

Dec 23 1999   A stalker is arrested at George's house in Maui. Cristin Keleher helped herself to a frozen pizza and root beer, did her laundry and called her mother in New Jersey. She claims to have a "psychic connection" to George.

Dec 20 2000   George tells Reuters, "The world is going mental as far as I'm concerned. It's speeding up the whole technology and everything that's happening." Following that line of thought, George says that his new album will be computer-free, recorded as the Beatles used to in the 1960s. He joked that he's considering calling the album 'Your Planet Is Doomed, Volume One.'

Nov 29, 200   As he chants the Hare Krishna mantra, George dies peacefully in a private home in Los Angeles at 1:20pm PST. Present at his passing are Olivia, Dhani, Ravi Shankar, Ravi's wife Sukanya and daughter Anoushka, and Hare Krishna devotees Shyamasundar Das and Mukunda Goswami. Hindu rites are given to George's body. Ravi said that, right before his death, George "looked so peaceful, surrounded by love. He was a brave, beautiful soul, full of love, childlike humour and a deep spirituality."
